Chapter 1 - Wicked Food (wip)

"BURN IT! BURN IT TO THE GROUND!" The maniacal voice of their clan leader yelled.  This was not something hard for their members to do. This temple had long stood in defiance of the Great Empire of Duisternis, an empire of dark deeds, and evil whispers.

Soldiers poured into the temple, and began to slaughter the temple priests.  The high priest mourned as he looked at the altar of Everlasting Flames that they had tended for thousands of years.

"Fools."  He said in a low tone as the sword pierced his chest.

"You are a fool! You stood against our great nation, and now you pay the price!"  The flames on the altar flickered.  The High Priest coughed, which launched a small blob of blood onto the altar. That blood splashed the altar, and bathed it in innocent blood.

"It has come to pass."  The High Priest whispered.  The words upon the altar glowed brighter.  When the Altar of Everlasting Flames is baptized in innocent blood, an old god of wicked hunger would be reborn upon the land. The rest of the words were unreadable, as they were written for that being alone.

"What...." A loud rumble could be heard deep within the ground.  The temple shook as another rumble sounded.

"It's like something is trying to break into this world."  A nearby soldier said in a low cautious voice.  The rumble grew louder, then the air in front of them shook and shimmered.  Then the old priest's blood rose off the floor and splattered onto an unseen surface.  The soldiers slowly approached the invisible surface.

"What's going on in there! Why isn't the temple burning?"  The soldier with the torch turned his head, but for the remaining seconds of his life, he would wish that he obeyed his instincts and run for his life.

A hand made of blood clutched at his throat and lifted him as though he weighed less than a grain of sand.

"Hurrrkkk!"  His breath stopped in his throat.  He could feel his life's blood surge in his veins, and rip out through his skin painfully.  That was when the red eyes formed in front of his own.  Red glowing eyes that bore deep inside his mind, and turned the remainder of his life into a small hell where he lived and died hundreds of times.  He felt endless pain, despair, and humiliation during these times as that is what he inflicted upon hundreds of ordinary men, women, and children.

All he could see during each death were his own eyes cruelly torturing and killing so many different people.  His eyes were filled with such disgusting desire for the cries of his victims that even this now dying soldier hated those eyes, and wished for his own death.

"What the hell is it!" Another soldier called out.  A pitch black skeleton stood in front of them, covered in dark red blood, and some small amounts of muscle.  Their fellow soldier became nothing but dust and bones in only seconds.

"It's just an undead!  Crush it with your mace!"  The squad leader called out.  He lifted his mace in rage, and struck out with the greatest amount of force he could generate.  If this had been a normal undead, his fellows would call out his name with pride. If this was a normal skeleton, his mace would have turned that walking pile of bones into a shattered pile of fragments.

But this was not a normal mindless undead creature.

"I....I.....ieeeeee!"  The soldiers rushed out of the temple in terror.  A second soldier was now a pile of dusty bones at the monster's feet.  All they could hear was a deep wet laughter as they ran for their pitiful lives.

"Such delicious wicked food."  He turned and looked at the temple priest.  "It seems that I have come too late to save those who serve the light.  A pity.  The flames were....comforting."  The cold that always seeped into this creature's bones began to invade again.  It looked at the altar and saw the words inscribed.  It bent down and lightly brushed away the dust that blocked his view.

"I see.  Innocent blood soaks the soil, while the wicked have their way with the world."  Then it began to laugh.  The echoes poured out of the ancient temple, and sent a shiver down the spine of anyone who heard it.

"I shall feast on the wicked and cleanse the land!  Beware you human monsters!  A real monster has been reborn this night! And I am Hungry!"
